In 2003, Esther Carpenter Hutchinson was crowned Princess in the Miss German-America Court. Having always attended the Parade, she enjoyed watching Court Members on the float looking so happy and celebratory and wanted to be apart of a great tradition.
Her advice to future court members is, “Have fun! The energy and excitement you exude at the Oktoberfests you attend will catch on and encourage people to also have fun and hopefully attend the parade!” Esther says that being a member of the Court helped her step outside her comfort zone in order to meet and interact with new people at each event and even to learn rifle shooting at Plattduetsche Park!
Attending the Parade every year, she looks forward to the interactiveness of it and, as a new mom, she can’t wait to bring her son, John, to his first Parade this September! And if she could have her pick, she would design a German cuckoo clock to ride up Fifth Avenue!
