The German-American Committee of Greater New York (GACGNY) is excited to announce the recipients of the 2017 Inaugural German-American Committee of Greater New York Scholarships

It is with great pleasure that the German-American Committee of Greater New York announces the inaugural recipients of the German-American Committee Scholarships, High School and College. We experienced an exciting and successful program launch. The GACGNY looks forward to many more years of awarding academic scholarships to deserving German-American students in the Metropolitan New York area who take an active interest in their German heritage and culture.

The Scholarship Committee received a total of fifteen (15) applications for high school scholarships and thirty (30) applications for college scholarships. Every student’s application was worthy of receiving an award based on the submission of a recent transcript, a written essay and a resume which featured active participation in the German-American community. Considering the quality of the applications received, the Scholarship Committee and final judging panel had a difficult time selecting the finalists and award recipients.

The German American Committee of Greater New York Scholarship Committee is proud to announce the award recipients of $1,000 for High School students and $2,000 for College students:

High School – $1,000 Scholarship award recipients

– Krista Handler, attending Kellenberg Memorial High School

– Sofia Khalek, attending Farmingdale High School

College  – $2000 Scholarship award recipients

– Nicole Dahlquist, attending Washington & Lee University

– Emilia Rakhamimova, attending CUNY-Hunter College

On behalf of the GACGNY and the Scholarship Committee, we heartily congratulate the award recipients and wish all the applicants continued success in their educational endeavors.
