Direct from Vienna! Mozart’s “Requiem!”

Sunday, June 30, 7:30 PM

Members of the Cathedral Choirs, Diocesan Boys/Teens Choir, and MasterChorale 2013, and Special Guests, conducted by Michael L. Bower, with accompaniment of full orchestra and the cathedral organs will present this FINAL and GREATEST master-work of Mozart: his setting of the “Requiem.”  50 members of the Choirs sang in St. Stephen’s Cathedral, Vienna, last July 14, in a performance conducted by Gerald Wirth, Director of the Vienna Boys Choir.

A great deal of mystery surrounds the creation of this work, as made more famous in the 1980s movie, “Amadeus”.   The performance will make use of the well known completion of the work by one of Mozart’s associate composers: Franz Sussmayr.  A more striking element of this superb performance will be the German pronunciation of the Latin text! This would be quite common in Europe, however, far less often heard in the United States.
